Losers

John Jenkins

The non-candidate for Mayor of Auburn won, and he wasn't even on the ballot. The write-in election of John Jenkins is sure to be one for the record books, and a feather in Jenkins cap.

Ocean Properties and the Portland Democrat Machine

Fortunately for the citizens of Portland their elections are non-partisan, unfortunately that has apparently been replaced by corporate logos. The city council race saw Team Oylmpia's sponsorship of $10,000 pay-off nicely with the victory in the final lap by John Anton. Mr. Anton defeated the Ocean Properties candidate—incumbent Jim Cloutier, despite a last minute pit stop with the best mechanic in town, Tony Buxton, who spent thousands of his own money attempting to put new tires on the ailing vehicle. I wonder if Mr. Anton will have a room named after him at the Olympia Company

The Media in Biddeford

What more can be said than: Mayor Joanne Twomey.

Libraries and Children

The chances are if you lived in a town in Maine and you wanted to spend millions on your library or your school by asking voters to give you more money—the answer was no. NO for the South Portland High School--- NO for the Lithgow library in Augusta.

Josh Tardy

The Republican Minority Leader won two out of five special elections. Of course, he lost one house seat—but the fact remains -- republicans haven't won a special election in almost two decades.

Kevin Raye

Senator Raye was the front man for Washington County Casino and the reluctant occasional political spokesman for extending term limits--two losses for the up and coming pol from Washington County.
