The DSCC shows Allen how to go negative

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) fired up a new ad earlier this week aimed directly at the voting record of Senator Collins.

The ad, entitled "Know" opens with a clip of Senator Collins saying, "We do need change in Washington."

The ad continues, "Now she says she's for change? When Maine really needed her, Susan Collins voted to give billion-dollar tax breaks to oil companies making record profits, cast the deciding vote to continue Bush's tax cuts for the rich, and voted against minimum wage increases for Mainers nine times.

Now we know Susan Collins is just more of the same.

This ad is light years ahead of the negative ad being run by the Allen campaign. It is specific, it talks to Mainers and their wallets and creates a theme around "more of the same" in a far more effective way than the change mantra from the Allen campaign.

Kevin Wack over at the Maine Race, takes a look at the facts and sources from the ad, and the DSCC also provides documentation on their website. The Collins campaign will have plenty of ammunition with which to fire back, and they will. The important point is that, unlike the Allen ad, the DSCC actually provides legitimate source material that can be reviewed and disputed.

There is a rumor that the DSCC will be releasing another ad by the end of the week.
