What can you possible add to the LaMarche departure from the Oxford County casino campaign?
I got three words for you DI SAS TER!
Sure it was a long shot from the beginning, but Mainer's have been known to give the finger to conventional wisdom from time to time.
Pat LaMarche gave the casino effort some credibility and she had the ability to connect with average people.
No more.
Apparently Ms. LaMarche couldn't come to terms with the fact that Seth Carey would not depart quietly, if at all -- from his casino effort.
Of course, that has always been the problem. It is in fact Mr. Carey's casino. He wrote the bill, he collected the signatures and he worked tirelessly to see that his legislation made it on the ballot. Who really thought he was ever going to walk away?
Folks like Mr. Carey don't come around very often. A strange combination of dogged determinism and a pinch of crazy with just a dash of naiveté. This entire effort has been on the verge of collapsing from the beginning. And yet, Mr. Carey has persisted.
CasinosNO was quick to issue a press release heralding the LaMarche departure of further evidence that the casino is simply a bad deal for Maine. Of course, it's a bad deal for casinosNO as well. Who could possibly be convinced that it is even necessary to donate to a campaign to fight the casino effort. Frankly it would just be a distraction from the efforts of the pro casino side, which appears to be doing a great job for CasinosNO.
