The biggest loser

OK – help me out here. Who is the biggest loser in the primary campaign?

It’s a tough call.

I think you have to consider Mark Impeach Lawrence who finished 5th, and a distant 5th with less than 5% of the vote in the First Congressional District. Here you have a great candidate, District Attorney and former Senate President who ran a campaign that focused on the impeachment of George Bush. If you start being referred to as a far left candidate -- when you have Ethan Strimling and Mike Brennan in the race, you know something has gone seriously awry.

And then there’s the guy with good looks, a terrific base of support, a strong grass roots history and a great campaign team -- which means Ethan Strimling makes the list for finishing fourth in the First CD race. Sure it was a crowded field with plenty of competition for the progressive vote but as the saying goes --to whom much is given, much is expected.

The king of grassroots, Paul Madore, should stick with referenda. The much hyped three-way Lewiston Senate seat proved to be a cake walk for Representative Craven, who finished on top with more than 54% of the vote. How, the only guy in the race with a French name, can finish dead last with just 15% of the vote is a mystery. Though, it is apparently not so mysterious for the voters in Lewiston.

Although Tony Payne was not actually on the ballot, his outspoken and visible financial support for Ed Keller, who lost, Gary Pelletier, who lost and Adam Cote, who lost -- is certainly worth a mention in the list of losers.

Winners are on deck. If I have missed any losers or you want to suggest a few winners email me at politickerme@aol.com

Payne in the A$$

With out a doubt Tony Payne was the biggest loser this primary season. Not only did every candidate he supported lose, he also managed to make some pretty powerful enemies in the state house at the same time.

I wouldn't expect his group to accomplish much this coming legislative session.

Pellitier, Kelleher and Cote are all wishing Payne had kept his arrogant mouth shut.

I think among the biggest

I think among the biggest losers in this election has to be Ray Richardson.

Richardson can often be caught invoking Ronald Reagan, but ignores Reagan’s 11th commandment which is a core principle for all successful teams… political or non-political.

Poor Dean Scontras! He’s the latest victim of Richardson’s “speak now; think later (or is it ‘spew now; don’t think all?’)” approach to politics.

Candidates, if Richardson offers his help or endorsement, run the other way.

It’s the Kiss of Death!

Paul Madore is the Ultimate

Paul Madore is the Ultimate looser along with all right wing extrmist who thought they could steal the Lewiston Senate Race by rolling out a kinder gentler Madore, all his spin didnt fool anyone but his Right wing backers out of their money!!!

Bailey!

Dennis Bailey and Corey Hascall have GOT to be on this list. They ran a long negative whisper campaign that completely blew up in their faces, and they may have sunk Ethan's future political aspirations for good.

He even lost to Pingree and Cote in his own precinct!

Savvy!

How About.....

The Portland Phoenix? They labeled Ethan the best politician, and he didn't even carry his own hometown. That's got to hurt.

and they endorsed Brennan

so they lost twice!

Richardson should be on the

Richardson should be on the list because he leads with his heart and his ideas not with his head, choosing the person who most closely agrees with them, even when he knows they cannot possibly win. Scontras is a good example. He had no chance, yet Ray turned on Summers to support Scontras.

Worse, he turned his back on Summers and betrayed him because of his hatred of long-term politicians and because of Scontras conservative ideas. Did I hear him say on Friday that he would have supported Cote over Summers if the race went that way? Summers must love that one.

Does anyone know why Richardson turned on Summers? Someone said they thought he would vote against Collins if it weren't for Tom Allen being the other choice. I do not understand him and why he has turned on Republicans, just like he did the Republicans in the Legislature.

Does he really believe most Mainers are as conservative as he is?

He and Teddy will bite the hand that feeds them one too many times and ruin their show.

I am just trying to figure

I am just trying to figure it out. I listen or watch most days. The show is informative and often funny. Ted and Ray seem to have good chemistry, but Ray has been so negative about the Republican Party. I really think he hates them.

I haven't seen Susan Collins on his show for months after her being on all the time. Is it true he doesn't invite her on anymore? Ted said something about that a few weeks ago and Ray said he had not invited her back or something like that.

I thought this was supposed to be a Republican show for Maine. Now it seems to be a "Ray hates every politician who doesn't agree with him." Even Roy Leonardsom is not on very often and very few politicians anymore. I actually like not hearing their rhetoric on the air, but I thought that was Ray's gig because he knows most of them. very odd
