Elaine Makas, Paul Madore and Margaret Craven are in a three-way battle for the Lewiston Senate seat. This primary is more like the general election as a republican has not won the Senate seat since BJM (before John Martin).
Representatives Makas and Craven have the advantage of appearing on the ballot for a number of years, so voters, at least in their House districts, are used to voting for them. Paul Madore is certainly a known quantity, as an active participant in many referenda campaigns, including TABOR, partial birth abortion (opposed) and gay rights (opposed).
In a three way primary, it is possible to win with very few votes, and each candidate brings his or her own base of voters from the start. So far, little outside money (independent expenditures) has been spent in the district, which means the winner will likely be decided with $7000 in clean election funds for each candidate and lots of door knocking, telephone calls and lit drops.
