I want to make a new rule – before you start your campaign, you actually have to be on the ballot. So far, Ms. Dobson, and independent seeking the Senate seat held by Susan Collins, has run an aggressive campaign of protests, speeches, postings on web sites, letters to the editor and, of course, the all important indictment of those war criminals, George Bush and Dick Cheney.
And the 4,000 signatures you need to get on the ballot are where, exactly?
The idea for my new rule came when I saw some folks at a Shaw's supermarket collecting signatures for Herbert Hoffman, another independent in the race, while Ms. Dobson was busy finishing her reign of terror -- squatting in Senator Collins’ office.
Apparently, Ms. Dobson and her peasant skirt posse have taken a liking to the confines of the lobby of the Portland office of Senator Collins, staging a second sit-in this week. I understand they even brought their own pee-pot this time. That's nice.
Yo! Ms. Dobson, Senator Collins isn't at the office at 2:00 in the morning.
I'm sure the sit-ins are lots of fun; talking about evil corporations and all their corporating or the 1,001 uses for hemp, but you ought to at least consider that these offices are constituent offices, staffed by hard working people with families.
Perhaps your declaration of conscience should consider that.
Republicans have been taking steps to own the energy issue in Maine, hoping they can ride the energy wave to victory on Election Day. >
Ouch.
When Wally's right, he's right.
Time to pack up the calliope and hit the road, Laurie.

Laurie Dobson for Senate
I believe your article on Laurie Dobson was done in very poor taste. Yes, Sen. Collins office is paid for by Maine resident taxes, including Ms. Dobson, myself & around 70% of the voters/Mainers that are against the undeclared, illegal war/occupation on Iraq. This war was started by Bush on a down-right lie. This is perjury and treason, yet this Administration still remains in office, when they should have been impeached long ago.
Collins continues to vote in "favor" of these unconstitutional policies over 80% of the time. She is not in tune with the people in Maine. Sen. Collins still votes along with them, and even draws up a Senate "domestic terrorism act", S.1959.
Your Blog should focus on the different policy decisions of the candidates, rather than dredging up the old anti-women lines used to sex-up and dress down women running for office. We deserve better than derogatory sexist campaign opinion columns.

Wally your right on, she
Wally your right on, she needs to run for something more her speed, maybe a girl scout leader.
Running for Office, Not Running for Cover
Hello again! If I was a girl scout leader, which my mother and sister were, very proudly, I would remind you sir, to clean up your act and check over your work. You made a spelling mistake, for instance, saying "Wally you're right on", and not 'your right on'.
Also, Wally, while we are at it, you should also double check your spelling (not to mention your facts). I am an independent, not 'and independent'. I know you work really hard on these opinions and since I've also been a journalist for a dozen papers, I understand the time pressures.
Not only do I understand the media, I understand where people are coming from, after speaking with over 10,000 of them. Just yesterday in Auburn, people consistently told me that they want out of this war and they want the country to take care of its people. There is anger out there, and suffering, and it is due to the misplaced priorities of Allen and Collins. They will not get a free pass from me.
I will use every means at my disposal to bring better justice for the people of Maine and I don't care what epithets get hurled at me. I will stay on target, just like my Dad, who flew 100 missions over Vietnam, flying B-52 bombers for a government which, just like this one, decided to start a war on false pretenses.
I know the cost of war and it is too hard to pay. We are asking too much of the people of Maine and the people of this country. We are expecting them to keep running cover for Collins while she runs cover for Bush and now McCain, who want to make sure that they can continue to profit from these wars until every last cent is sucked dry and we're running on fumes.
I won't stand by and watch this spectacle of greed and corruption and lives laid waste. Running for office doesn't mean running for cover.
I know from first hand experience, just like countless others, that war sucks. I'm not holding back Wally. Hope you're ready.

...and you can quote me.
Also: since my mom did have me in her girl scout troop, you can be sure that I left Collin's office cleaner than I found it, except for the board room, since she locked us out and we could not get the bagel bag back.
You might tell her that the lobby needs a good dusting and that the flowers were old and the vase water was dirty. Susan, sharpen up your image! Better yet, keep your word and stand down--you've had your two terms and you promised not to run for three. Keep your word, if not your honor!

What causes this dysfunction?
What is it about women who reach a certain age becoming unbalanced glory hounds? Like Cindi Sheehan, Dobson is a buffoon who is incapable of reasoned debate or respect for other opinions. My theory is there a some sort of chemical changes in the brain that occurs post-menopause
Public Restrooms - Use them!
Laurie is it true you actually took a whiz in the corner at Collins' office?
Word on the street is that you squatted behind a sheet and did the dirty deed in a room full of about 15 people. If that's true, then, well, yechhh.
You apparently grossed out even your hippy pals with that one, Laurie.
