It hasn't been a good week for Seth Carey. First, the spearhead of the Oxford County Casino citizen initiative becomes the subject of a disciplinary hearing of the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar for improper conduct. Now, we learn from today's AP wire report that Carey is stepping down from his role as leader of the initiative after it was reported that he received a summons for assault that allegedly took place in early March.
Needless to say, even with Carey's resignation, this isn't good for the casino campaign. Recently hired spokesperson Pat LaMarche is going to need a lot of Odwalla bars to see her through this crisis management. I can see Dennis Bailey's CasinosNO ad now: "If the casino slots don't knock you out, the management will!"
Whatever the [court] case may be, and if rumours I've been hearing are true, tomorrow's news will be a lot worse than today's for Seth Carey.

I sure wish my fellow Mainers would wake up and smell the green.
Casinos bring in money, no matter what Dennis Bailey says, and Maine sure can use it.
From experience I know that casino patrons play at any/all casinos.
Crime: we have more in Maine from drinking than I ever have seen or heard of at a casino, of any kind.
Before people automatically SAY NO to casinos, they ought to research and go to one.
People spending money they shouldn't:they do that on booze and scratch tickets anyway, let alone drugs.
Why shouldn't folks have a choice where they want to spend their money?????
