First it was Senator Bill Diamond, then John Nutting and now Senator Nancy Sullivan has decided to test the waters in the “one vote makes a difference” side show that has plagued the 18-17 Senate.
Hats off to Victoria Wallack, who continues to write insightful political news stories. She managed to get great quotes from the good Senator from Biddeford that must have the second floor cringing.
It would appear the Senator Sullivan is not going to carry the water for Governor Baldacci’s plan to raise the cigarette tax by 50 cents. In fact she said, “Why would I want to carry his water and raise a tax?” she asked. “I’m not raising a tax now.”
As Ms. Wallach points out in her story, Senator Sullivan’s comments will have a huge impact in the 18-17 Senate, where republican support is non-existent -- unless of course, Senator Peter Mills changes his mind, again.
Senator Sullivan summed up the cigarette tax battle nicely when she said, “Somebody is going to have to blink”.
Change BLINK to BLING for Biddeford, and I think we will have a deal.
