Termed out Sen. John Martin, D-Eagle Lake, will seek his old House seat back in 2008, and Senate Republican leadership is eyeing his current seat as a key pick-up opportunity.
Senate Minority Leader Carol Weston is pushing for a Republican take-over of the chamber next year. They are targeting open seats, such as Martin’s.
Right now the Democrats hold the majority by one seat. Weston said if her party is successful, she will run for Senate president.
Martin said the Democrats will have a candidate to replace him.
“They’re out of their minds,” Martin said Wednesday. “It’s one of the most Democratic districts in the state.”
Of the four representatives in Martin’s district, two are Democrats and two are Republicans.
Martin has served in the Legislature since 1964, only taking 1996 and 1997 off. He served 10 terms as Speaker of the House.

Isn't he the REASON...
Isn't Sen. (or Rep...apparelty they are both interchangable) John Martin the reason term limits were invented? What has he not tried at a run for governor by now? That has always puzzled me.
I personally feel that will be a hard seat to get, but wll worth the newstories.
