Convention update: 10:45 p.m.

The convention floor is clear and delegates have disbursed to the various parties – all of which started three hours late.

Before the final speaker came out, convention chair Beth Edmonds announced the final delegate tally – 15 delegates from Maine will represent Barack Obama in Denver, and nine will represent Hillary Clinton. The results of all the other votes – for national delegate slots and DNC members – will be announced tomorrow.

The Democratic Convention appeared to be running smoothly up until lunchtime, when chaos erupted. At that point counties broke off into caucuses where voting was to take place on national delegates, presidential electors, state committee slots and DNC positions.

Maine Democratic Convention update: 2:15 p.m.

Convention Chair Beth Edmonds said the alternate upgrade confusion resulted from lists getting mixed up in the computers. Other sources say that convention officials were going off the lists of people who signed up to be delegates at the caucuses – not the list of delegates that showed up.

While the room is packed, lots of state delegates did not show.

As a result, things are behind schedule. County caucuses, that were supposed to begin at 1:00, will begin at 3:00. This pushes everything else back – Congressional candidates will make their presentations at 6:00, Senate candidates will make their presentations at 7:30, and keynote speaker U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin will go on at 8:30.

Sen. Dick Durbin to address Maine Democrats

U.S. Senate Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin, D-Ill., will be the keynote speaker at the Maine Democratic Convention. In 2006 Durbin was named one of America’s Top 10 senators by Time magazine.

He will address Democrats May 31 at 6 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center. The convention will be held May 30 to June 1.

"We are really thrilled to have someone as respected and as well-liked as Senator Durbin come to Maine," said Executive Director Arden Manning in a release. "The fact he is willing to take time to come here shows how important Maine's Senate race is to the rest of the country in terms of the Senate's ability to bring about change next year."
