Today's convention schedule

The fourth and final day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST on Thursday, with a theme of "Change You Can Believe In."

The final day's events will take place at INVESCO Field at Mile High, where over 70,000 people are expected to attend.

Featured speakers will include Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D), former Vermont Gov. and Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean (D), New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D), U.S. Rep. and U.S. Senate candidate Mark Udall (D-Colo.), Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine (D), former Vice President Al Gore (D) and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D).

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), the Democratic presidential nominee, is scheduled to address the convention at 10 p.m. EST.

DENVER -- U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ (R-Bangor) seat is just one of a handful of seats that Democrats hope to take from Republicans this year, in order to gain a filibuster-proof majority.

The Democratic challengers, including U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland) are linking their opponents to President Bush, playing off the current administration’s low approval ratings.

Tom Allen appeared with five other Democratic challengers Wednesday afternoon in Denver to discuss the importance of taking back a working majority with U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Democratic National Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Kerry fundraises for Allen

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is running for re-election in 2008 and today he has sent out a fundraising appeal to supporters– except it’s not for himself. It’s for U.S. Senate candidates Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Mark Udall of Colorado, Tom Allen of Maine, and Jeff Merkely of Oregon.  read more »
