McCain takes Washington County

While most of the state pulled for Mitt Romney yesterday, John McCain won in Washington County.

McCain got 51 votes in the county, Romney got 40, and Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee got eight votes apiece. There were 113 voters.

McCain got most of his votes in Calais and Perry, the two towns to have more than 10 voters show up.

Ron Paul finished a close third with 19% and Mike Huckabee received just 5% of the vote. Paul had spent considerable time in Maine and was clearly looking for an upset victory.

Today the people of Maine joined those from across the nation in casting their vote for conservative change in Washington,” Romney said in a statement after his victory.

Huck’s Central Maine "army" gets mobilized

Several people wanted to volunteer for Mike Huckabee in Maine, but no one would step up to lead the group.

Finally, a stay-at-home mom with no campaign experience grabbed the torch.

Hartland resident Amy Hale was later pleased to find out that the people leading volunteer efforts in New Hampshire and Rhode Island were also stay-at-home moms and political outsiders.

Huck’s (Kennebec County) army mobilized Tuesday night, when Hale met nine strangers at the Ground Round in Augusta to talk about what they could do for Huckabee. They found each other through Meetup.com.

Maine CCL endorses Scontras, Huckabee

The Christian Civic League of Maine has endorsed Dean Scontras for the First Congressional District and Mike Huckabee for President.

Both endorsements received a unanimous vote Saturday from the League’s board of directors.  read more »
