Bangor Daily News backs Pingree, Michaud

The Bangor Daily News has thrown their support behind 1st Congressional District candidate Chellie Pingree (D-North Haven) and 2nd Congressional District Rep. Mike Michaud (D-East Millinocket).

In ME-1, they said both candidates are strong, but cited Pingree’s work in the Legislature, in running a small business and running Common Cause.

Planned Parenthood endorses legislative candidates

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England has announced its endorsements of legislative candidates for this election cycle.

PPNNE is a registered political action committee with the state. As of July 23, the most recent data available, the fund had $4,421 in its coffer, and had spent $1,737 this year. A new report should be out this week.

Most of those endorsed are Democrats, with a few Republicans thrown in the mix. They are as follows:

Cote and Summers pick up newspaper endorsement

I'm not sure I would have predicted that Adam Cote would snag the endorsement from the Portland Press Herald -- the Charlie Summers endorsement, sure, but Cote?

Endorsements are difficult to pin point in terms of their impact on an election. It is believed that endorsements from newspapers are good for last minute fundraising and momentum. On the other hand, in Republican territory newspaper endorsements can often be spun rather quickly with words like "fish wrap" and "liberal rag".
