John McCain’s personality makes him attractive, his son says

MINNEAPOLIS -- John McCain’s son said the way his dad handled the Republican National Convention this week is the same way he will handle the country if he is elected President.

Andy McCain spoke to the Maine and Vermont delegations Tuesday.

The beginning of the RNC was truncated in response to Hurricane Gustav which hit the Gulf Coast this week.

UPDATED: Biden, Rove respond to 'doofus' comment

UPDATE: Karl Rove just appeared on Fox News, where he is a commentator. He was asked about the comments he made at a Maine delegation breakfast where he called Democratic vice presidential candidate a "big, blowhard doofus."

He didn't deny making the comments, and said the only thing he would apologize for was for Biden being wrong of the Iraq War.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden has responded to comments Karl Rove made in front of the Maine delegation this morning.

At the delegation’s breakfast, Rove called Biden a “big blowhard doofus.” His press secretary later responded with a prepared statement.

CNN reports that on a campaign flight Monday evening, a reporter asked him if he would now answer to Senator Doofus.

Hurricane Gustav and the RNC: Taking a day by day approach

The Maine RNC delegation is taking a day by day approach in coordinating convention events in response to Hurricane Gustav, a major storm hitting the Gulf Coast.

Today, the delegation breakfast was the only delegation event. At 1 Mainers will head to the Xcel Energy Center, where the convention is being held, for a truncated session where only necessary business will be done. That session is expected to last a few hours.

State convention officials were not sure how the rest of the week will play out.

Tuesday Maine will hold a joint breakfast with the Vermont delegation, where seven surrogates for Sen. John McCain will speak.

Hurricane Gustav to shake up Mainers’ RNC schedule; several major speakers planned for Tuesday

MINNEAPOLIS – Republicans are scrambling to adjust the Republican National Convention schedule in response to Hurricane Gustav which is ripping through the Gulf Coast.

This is no different for the Maine delegation. Late Sunday evening Maine party chairman Mark Ellis said the delegation was still working out how their schedule will be altered.

Two events are set.

Monday morning the delegation will hold a breakfast at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.
