Tick tock: Statutory adjournment date looms as lawmakers push to get work done

One week and one day left until statutory adjournment in the Legislature, and 208 bills to go.

Senate President Beth Edmonds reminded members of this before the body took a break Tuesday. Be prepared, she told them. Read the calendar. Have your amendments in order.

Good Ship Moderate Adrift at Sea….Again

No one is exactly sure when Senator Diamond jumped ship on HIS compromise budget in favor of the latest House version, but he was definitely spotted swimming to democratic shores swallowing mouthfuls of promises along the way.

OPEGA cuts cause divisiveness in budget debate

The House approved the Democratic version of the state budget 82 to 63 Wednesday evening. There are about 50 amendments being printed which will be taken up Thursday.

Whither OPEGA?

Senator Martin offered an amendment to the budget late last night (Thursday) that would essentially eliminate OPEGA and transfer a few of the staff and some resources to another office in the Legislature.
