Scontras takes stage in liberal forum

It was a tough room.

Dean Scontras, a Republican candidate for the First Congressional District, took the stage Tuesday with four Democrats vying for the CD1 seat. It was a forum put on by two leftist groups, and a crowd of mostly liberals.  read more »

Allen accuses Collins of protecting Halliburton

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., is accusing U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Bangor, of allowing war profiteering to occur when she denied his request to investigate Halliburton in her role as chairwoman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Now, U.S. Rep. Tom Allen, who hopes to unseat Collins in November, has joined him.

Frary to Michaud: ‘Puzzling assertions’ in impeachment letter

UPDATED Tuesday 1:55 P.M. with information from Michaud's office

John Frary, Rep. Mike Michaud’s Republican challenger in the Second Congressional District race, is calling for the congressman to explain his support for Vice President Dick Cheney’s impeachment.

Michaud wrote a letter in support of impeachment to the House Chairman on the Judiciary Dec. 21. In September, however, Michaud wrote MaineImpeach.org, “stating purely partisan impeachment proceedings would be destructive and divisive," Frary said in a release.

Another push for impeachment

Congressional candidate and state Sen. Ethan Strimling commended U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud for supporting the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.
