2010 gubernatorial prospects take wait-and-see approach

Politicker photo.The list of those speculated to run for governor in 2010 is wide and far-reaching. During a special session Wednesday, PolitickerME had a chance to catch up with a number of state senators on the list.

When asked, most of them remained mum on their ambitions.

Gov. John Baldacci will be termed out, so the 2010 race will be for an open seat.

The closest thing to an admission from any state senator came from Sen. Peter Mills (R-Skowhegan).

“I probably will,” he said.

Rowe slowly prepares for 2010

Attorney General Steven Rowe’s 2010 gubernatorial campaign is slowly coming to life.

Rowe, D-Portland and a former Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, has confirmed that www.rowe2010.com belongs to him, along with another URL. In addition, he’s drumming up support on Facebook – though his profile doesn’t say what he’s running for yet. He has 75 supporters.

Rowe said he definitely running for governor – but wants to wait until the end of the year, when his Attorney General’s term is up, to start campaigning.

The rumor being spread around the State House is that Senator Dana Dow (R - Waldoboro)has told friends, colleagues and supporters that he has decided not to run for reelection.

All in the Family, Maine Style

While America grows tired of the Bush and (maybe) Clinton dynasties running the country, Mainers too are feeling their own form of dynasty fatigue...

Consider the following:

* While former State Senator Chellie Pingree is working her Washington DC network to pummel Ethan Strimling and maintain the frontrunner status in the Democratic nomination for the first US Congressional district, her daughter, Hannah Pingree, is anxiously awaiting the next legislative session, when the blonde bombshell will more than likely become the next Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives.

The Governor Marathon 2010: Republicans. (In alphabetical order)
