Snowe: ‘We don’t want to go back to the future’

After losing control of Congress in 2006, U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe said it is paramount that the Republicans retain control of the presidency.

Snowe told a crowd of Androscoggin County caucus-goers that John McCain is the only candidate who can get elected in November. “We don’t want to go back to the future,” Snowe said.

She said McCain has an ability to unite Democrats and Republicans, and restore trust in government.

“We have seen up close his incredible strength,” Snowe said.

She also spoke in support of her colleague, Sen. Susan Collins, who is running for re-election. She praised Collins’ work on the Homeland Security committee, and general leadership in Maine.

“Sen. Collins has distinguished herself in the U.S. Senate,” Snowe said.

The key to keeping Maine Republicans in office?

“Grassroots, grassroots, grassroots,” Snowe said.

Just what we need. Another Republican president to start more wars and veto health care for kids. Smart. Real smart.
