The rumor being spread around the State House is that Senator Dana Dow (R - Waldoboro)has told friends, colleagues and supporters that he has decided not to run for reelection. Senator Dow is serving his second term in the Senate. He defeated incumbent Senator Chris Hall (D) in 2004.
Dave Trahan, a former 4-term house member from Waldoboro is apparently ready to announce his intentions to run for the newly open seat. Democrats will certainly scramble to find the right candidate to compete in this seat, which they had previously written off. This is good news for the Senate Democrats, although Trahan is certainly a formidable opponent and can hold the seat for the Republicans.
However, in Maine, almost any open House or Senate race is an opportunity for either party.
