Paul brings new faces to Maine caucuses

Networking among the who’s-who atmosphere of “The Maine Event” in Portland, where Republicans gathered after the caucus, were two high school students.

Carrie Paul and Haley Gallant at a Ron Paul rally last Monday.Carrie Paul, 18, and Haley Gallant, 17, both of Manchester, had never been involved in politics before, and had a stereotypical vision of the Republican Party as being a bunch of pro-war President Bush supporters.

Then a friend told them about Ron Paul. They became just two of the many Maine residents who had never been engaged in politics before finding Paul, and two of the many who spoke on the Texas congressman’s behalf Saturday.

The two didn’t stop at voting for Paul, they decided to engage themselves in the party. Gallant was elected chairwoman of the Manchester state delegates, and both volunteered for the Republican City Committee.

Gallant said seeing all the candidates at the Kennebec County caucus inspired her – now she’d like to run for office someday.

“I want my own bumper stickers,” she said.

Stavros MendrosRon Paul people came out en mass at the Androscoggin County caucus, and were noticeably present at the Sagadahoc and Lincoln county caucuses.

In Lewiston, they demanded equal time after they felt Paul staffer Stavros Mendros was cut short. After the other speakers, Mendros was allowed to come back up and continue answering questions.

Mendros talked about Paul having the ability to select the best judges for the bench and the need to restore the values of the constitution.

At both the Sagadahoc and Lincoln county caucuses, residents came forward to speak on behalf of Paul.

Gary Harvey, a Woolwich resident, works at the Bath shipyard and spoke at the West Bath caucus. To him, it’s the economic issues that are important.

Donald FolkersDonald Folkers of New Castle spoke in Damariscotta. He said he likes Paul because of his support for a smaller government.

“Right now we have government by consensus, that’s not my style,” he said.

Ken Lindell, state coordinator for the Paul campaign, said despite Paul’s third-place finish in the Maine straw poll, he expects a heavy turnout for him among delegates at the caucuses.

He agrees that Paul brought in a lot of new voters, and lit a fire under the Mitt Romney and John McCain campaigns.

“Our campaign may have inspired the others to wake up and turn out,” he said.

Word on the street is Romney has the popular vote, but Paul won more delegates.

True, Mainers?

Yes. Please tell us what

Yes.
Please tell us what really happened with the Ron Paul vote. There are no votes posted on CNN elections page. Is this Louisiana all over again? It seems funny that we have no results from any county in Maine.

This is something I'm

This is something I'm looking into tomorrow, but it's difficult to quantify because delegates are not bound.

I've requested them from the

I've requested them from the party, and will post them as soon as I get them.

Delegates for Paul

I hope this is true that Paul did better with delegates even if they are uncommitted. We will keep Ron Paul in this race and his message will be heard by more and we will attract more. Sign up as a precinct leader and keep the cash flowing. Way to go Maine

Ron Paul will win!!!

He is staying in this race all the way to whitehouse, weather the media and the establishment wants him to or not.

Ron Paul - if you know the facts, you will join the R3volution.

Maine Caucus

We set a precedent up here putting Ron in the 20% range in the preference poll. That shows the commitment and drive of the Paul grss roots support up here. You'll never meet a finer group of people. For those of you in other states looking for advice in upcoming events - GET YOUR PEOPLE OUT THERE. BRING YOUR FAMILY. Hats off to the Romney crowd (not empty suits with empty words like Mitt's son Tagg cruising around in his expensive ride, but the actual Mainer-Romney supporters who organized and SHOWED UP -- hint hint -- to their Caucuses). They were prepared and committed, and it is why they got over 50%. I am not kidding when I say, commit to getting your wife/husband/significant other/sibling/family member/neighbor/friend/hitchhiker to your primary/caucus for Paul. You can do it. At my Caucus I saw tons of partner teams with Romney stickers. Too bad we couldn't edge out McCain, but hopefully Super Tuesday states will be inspired by this. Jessica (above) is right that delegates are "technically" uncommitted (it's in the bylaws of the party here), but I can tell you from all my netowrk of contacts, and my own personal Caucus experience, that we have quite a few known/committed Ron Paul supporters in delegate seats. Ourconvention (when the delgates cast the binding votes) is May 3rd....GO SUPER TUESDAY STATES!! GO FOR RON PAUL!!!

REMEMBER NO DELEGATES WILL

REMEMBER NO DELEGATES WILL BE GIVEN OUT UNTIL JUNE AND RON PAUL LEADS IN DELEGATES. VOTES DO NOT MATTER. THE FOUNDERS PUT IN A BACKDOOR WITH THE DELEGATES THE MAJORITY OF WHOM FAVOR RON PAUL. IOWA IS SENDING NONE TO THE CONVENTION.NEW HAMPSHIRE HAS 1/3 OF WHAT NEVADA HAS WHICH HAS MORE THAN S. CAROLINA. LOUISIANA HAS ALMOST AS MANY AS FLORIDA WHICH WAS PENALIZED FOR MOVING ITS PRIMARY. THE BEAUTY OF THIS IS THE ELECTORATE BECAUSE THE FOUNDERS KNEW THAT MOST WHO VOTED DO NOT HAVE A CLUE.
FOR EXAMPLE 65% OF REPUBLICAN VOTERS THINK MC CAIN WILL DO A GOOD JOB WITH THE ECONOMY YET HE HAS SAID THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT ECONOMICS.
