ME-1: Hunter to campaign for Summers

U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), who briefly sought the Republican Presidential nomination, will be in Maine Wednesday to campaign with 1st Congressional District candidate Charlie Summers (R-Scarborough).

Hunter is a Vietnam War veteran, and his son is a Gulf War veteran. Summers recently returned from Iraq.

Summers said in a release:

"It's a thrill to welcome Congressman Hunter to Maine, a man who has served his country so nobly both in the military and as a longtime, respected member of the U.S. House. His vote of confidence in my ability to represent the best interests of Mainers in Washington - especially veterans and those in the defense industry - is truly an honor.  I look forward to the opportunity to follow in his footsteps in serving my state and my country in Congress, and on the Armed Services Committee, if so privileged."

Does this mean Charlie endorses Hunter's views?

In particular, Hunter is an anti-immigrant activist, a hawk, and a staunch pro-lifer.

So is Summers switching teams on these issues? Or is he just desperate for some company?

Summers On Correct Track for Mainers

Summers isn't a single issue candidate and his association with Duncan Hunter goes way beyond the issues in which Hunter believes.

Summers has stated HIS positions but accepts people of different views...even within his own party! Don't strap Charlie with the views of one person who comes into the district to support him. That's too shallow and simple!

To follow your logic, Pingree should be held responsible for the positions of Nancy "Deer-in-the-headlights" Pelosi and Harry Reid. Oh, wait a minute...their positions ARE her positions! Now I see the connection!

It's a bit crazy of Summers,

It's a bit crazy of Summers, isn't it? I guess it gives him a dollop of media -- a news brief or two, really -- but who's going to say, "I was going to vote for Pingree, but I did support Hunter -- I didn't realize he supported Pingree!"?

Of course, Hunter isn't campaigning himself, seeing as he vacated the seat to let his son run for it; maybe his son sent him up here to get him out of his hair for a little while.
