U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland) announced a slate of conservationists that support his bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Bangor).
"Tom has a strong personal connection to Maine's extraordinary natural heritage. Working with President Obama and the Democratic majority in the Senate, he will be a leader in addressing the environmental challenges threatening our health, our jobs and our quality of life," co-chair Dan Amory, a member of the Maine Advisory Board of the Conservation Law Foundation, and Past President of the Natural Resources Council of Maine, said in a release.
The coalition includes more than three dozen environmental leaders in the state that include (information provided by the Allen campaign):

Somewhat surprising...
This is somewhat surprising given that the League of Conservation voters gave Sen. Collins a 100% rating on their 2007 scorecard. (A Google search turned up http://www.susancollins.com/league-conservation-voters-applauds-sen-coll...) Not to mention that she received their 2006 Environmental Leadership Award. But I suppose you can't expect much when Dan Amory is citing a President Obama and Democratic majority. There certainly isn't any bias in this endorsement.
Conservationists back Allen
For the record; correction;
Whatever David Shiah's record is on the environment, he is not a co-founder of Friends of Merrymeeting Bay.
Further, this endorsement announcement implies support of Allen via the associations with various organizations, including 501 (c)(3)'s.
501 (c)(3)'s cannot endorse candidates under any circumstances.
FOMB does not implicitly or explicitly support Tom Allen or any other candidate for office.
I find the implication disturbing and deceptive.
Correction: False Impression
The Maine League of Conservation Voters does not take positions on federal elections. Several of MLCV's board members are actively supporting Susan Collins as well as Tom Allen.
