The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram has endorsed Sen. Susan Collins (R-Bangor) in her reelection bid against U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland).
In the endorsement, editorial writers cite her bipartisanship in the Senate.
“Her most signal accomplishments have been in the areas of homeland security and intelligence reform.
“Along with Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, a Democrat-turned-independent whose endorsement she has gained, she helped to author a significant reorganization of the nation's intelligence community. The 2004 law contained many recommendations of the 9/11 Commission established to review U.S. intelligence failures that led to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.”

Respect
I'm glad to see this. Allen has shown little respect for the voter during this race. A lot of the guys I work with are getting annoyed with his "change leadership" bit. We know that his party is in leadership. Pelosi in the House and Reid in the Senate are Democrats just like Allen. Allen thinks we're stupid with this schtick. Portland guy thinking the rest of the state is populated by rubes.
Leadership
The Press Herald/Sunday Telegram made the right choice.
Tom Allen must understand now that people don't buy what he's selling. Collins is the person who gets things done. Allen is the guy who whines.
Not surprising
This is coming from the same paper that thought invading Iraq was a good idea.
Nothing like telling Mainers they should vote against their own interests. Good thing Mainers are smarter than a couple conservative editorial staffers writing for a paper sinking like the Titanic (or maybe soaring like the Hindenburg).
The anger this endorsement
The anger this endorsement is ginning up has some woried that, when the election is said and done, the anti-Collins crowd will not go gracefully into the night. I've never seen the amount of anger and hate in a Maine race to this date. I hope that they will be able to get over it when Allen comes up short on election night. The websites like Collins Watch and Turn Blue have some really vile stuff. Mean, just plain mean.
Esquire Mag Endorses
Collins, Pingree and Michaud.
Nothing against Allen, but I think this endorsement game has been lost. Time for Tommy Boy to pull out the big guns and make like an outdoorsman.
Oh wait...didn't SAM endorse Collins too?
