A poll commissioned by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee shows U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Bangor) leading her challenger and U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland) 49 to 41 percent.
The poll also looked at the presidential race in Maine, where Democrat Barack Obama led Republican John McCain 52 to 35 percent.
The poll was commissioned by the Mellman Group, and surveyed 600 likely voters. It has a four percent margin of error.
Both the Allen campaign and the DSCC saw the poll as good news, as other recent polls have shown Collins with a double-digit advantage.
“Tom Allen has run a smart, disciplined campaign and with a month to go until the election continues to pick up momentum,” said DSCC spokesman Matthew Miller in a release. “Susan Collins talks like a moderate, but she always votes with George Bush, and Mainers are ready for a change.”

Smart, disciplined... NOT
Tom Allen is running a pathetically disorganized campaign that is anything but smart and disciplined.
He's a no show at major events in rural parts of the state -- showing that he doesn't understand what's important to people outside Portland.
His flack, Carol Andrews, chews out people all over the state as if Mainers are hicks and she's the only one who knows anything. That's undisciplined.
As for this poll. It's a DSCC poll. 'nuff said.
Gerald is it True
Is it true what they say about your being paid to blog for Congressman Allen?
LOL!
"And to the best of my knowledge, TMB has never ran an ad from any political candidate from Maine."
In other words, "But officer, I didn't charge that man for the trick. That one was on the house."
You're a real stitch Gerald... whichever of you is real.
Take a chill pill you two
One says you are and one says you aren't getting paid. I only asked a simple question but you two jumped down my throat. And you whined because I am not giving you my name. Wha( are you- some kind of perv cyber-stalker? Grow up and stop acting so childish Geralds. I may not know which of you is the real Gerald but you are real weirdos. Tom Allen lost my vote.
