The Rothenberg Political Report left both of Maine’s House races off its September list of competitive House races this fall, meaning they see it as limited risk for the Democrats, who hold both seats.
In the 1st Congressional District, Chellie Pingree (D-North Haven) faces Charlie Summers (R-Scarborough). The seat is being vacated by Tom Allen (D-Portland) who is running for the Senate.
In the 2nd Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Mike Michaud (D-East Millinocket) faces Farmington professor John Frary (R-Farmington).
This is no change from previous reports. The only time either race made the list of competitive contests was in November 2007, far before the primary, when Rothenberg put the ME-1 race in the “Democrat favored” category.

Smart move
Allen has made a pretty savvy political move here. Knowing the seat he's leaving to run against Collins will remain in Democrat hands, he has used this opportunity to establish a state-wide organization for the Governor's race in 2010. He is no fool and clearly isn't in the Senate campaign to win but rather using this cycle to set up for two years from now. He'll be tough in that Governor race - Rowe and Richardson watch out
Little Risk
Just a ?
Has Tom Allen been seen inthe company of Ms. Pingree?
Does either of them have any interest in the others fate?
Seems strange that they are not rallying the same support base. I would doubt that Allen has the same sort of approval among female voters that Pingree does.
Yeah Tom will be tough in the Govs. race in '10. But will Baldy endorse/campaign for him?
Latest Poll
has Allen trailing by 16 points. He has made no real push in this race and, although I at first rejected the notion of his real motive being the Blaine House, recent developments - including his economic proposals in regard to primarily state issues - lead me to only one conclusion: Tom Allen is running for Governor - 2010 - nothing more, nothing less. Question: can he win that primary? Allen, Rowe, Richardson et al?
