CORRECTED: ABC is not a labor union, as previously reported
First Congressional District candidate Charlie Summers (R-Scarborough) was endorsed today by the Maine Associated Builders and Contractors.
In a release, Maine ABC President Kathleen Newman said: "Charlie gets it. We need to send a representative to our nation's capital who understands the importance of the jobs created by the construction industry. As a small business owner and former regional administrator for the Small Business Administration in New England, Summers knows the importance of a stable, predictable regulatory environment. He understands that for our economy to thrive and grow new jobs, business owners must be confident in their investments and trust they'll have the support of their government."

NOT a Labor Union
Associated Builders and Contractors are a TRADE ORGANIZATION, NOT A LABOR UNION. Your post suggests, no wait...your post incorrectly implies, and bases your following claims on the suggestion, that the Associated Builders and Contractors are a labor union in Maine. They are NOT a labor union. In fact, they are the complete OPPOSITE. No wonder they don't support the EFCA. They are an organization looking out for the interests of employers and business organizations. Hardly breaking with a trend.
Please, retract this article, alter the lede, or rewrite the article correctly.
So WRONG!
Your article is wrong in insinuating that the Associated Builders would be in favor of the EFCA.
Please do more research before issuing such a blatantly incorrect assumption.
They are the management side of the labor equation and would oppose anything that would make it easier for their tradespeople to form a union.
Their endorsement of Summers is not in spite of his opposition to the EFCA. It is precisely because of it!
Please correct your article or remove it completely. It is totally misleading.
The Associated Builders and
The Associated Builders and Contractors are INCREDIBLY Anti-Union.
They are an organization of owners and executives that seek to line their own pockets with more cash at the expense of their employees. That means .... NO UNIONS!
Maine does not have strong Unions at present, many of these companies are able to kick organizers out, fire employees at even the first uttering of the word Union, and keep a stranglehold over their employees.
It makes complete sense that this group would formerly endorse Summers BECAUSE of his opposition to the EFCA.
Credit where it's due, people...
Thank you for making that correction/update, Jessica.
