Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s Maine campaign announced its “Maine Women for Obama” group today.
The group is headed by outgoing Senate President Beth Edmonds (D-Freeport) and state Sen. Libby Mitchell (D-Vassalboro).
Other state co-chairs are: First lady Karen Baldacci, former first lady Mary Hermon, former Maine Senate President Beverly Daggett, Maine House majority leader Hannah Pingree (D-North Haven.)
County chairs are: Peggy Rotundo (Androscoggin), Judy Paradis (Aroostook), Helen Regan (Cumberland), Carla Bryson (Cumberland), Marianne Stevens (Franklin), Lael Stegall (Hancock), Kim Silsby (Kennebec), Amy Fischer (Knox), Eleanor Kinney (Lincoln), Cathy Newell (Oxford), Gwethalyn Phillips (Penobscot), Emily Cain (Penobscot), Patsy Forthier (Piscataquis), Anita Johndro (Piscataquis), Jennifer DeChant (Sagadahoc), Maggie Allen (Somerset), Donna Gilbert (Waldo), Ann Perry (Washington), and Bonnie Pothier (York).
“Women can make the difference in this election,” Mitchell said in a release. “Barack Obama and Joe Biden will deliver real solutions to the challenges affecting women and families. They will work to ensure that every working woman can earn a livable wage, protect the right to choose, expand the childcare tax credit, and invest in our children’s education. Those are the kind of common-sense policies that have been missing for the last eight years and that will greatly improve the everyday lives of Maine women and their families.”
