Congressional candidate Charlie Summers: Campaign PhotoCharlie Summers (R-Scarborough) told Congressional Quarterly that he is a much better candidate than he was when he ran for the 1st Congressional District seat in 2004, and believes that he can prevail in the Democrat-dominated district.
CQ looks at his candidacy in this report today, following his speech last week at the Republican National Convention.
Summers faces Chellie Pingree (D-North Haven) on Nov. 4. The seat is open, as incumbent Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland) is running for the U.S. Senate.
CQ quotes U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Auburn), who said the key for Republicans to win in blue states such as Maine is “to be purple” and appeal to members of both parties.
She noted that Summers will have an easier time this year, as opposed to in 2004 when he ran against Allen, because the seat is open.
“It’s always hard to run against an incumbent as he did before, but in this case he has a very high probability of winning,” Snowe said in the article.
The article also quotes Willy Ritch, Pingree’s communications director, who said that Pingree is also feeling very good about her chances.

That's a misleading headline, Politicker.
I read the CQ article, and it says nothing about Summers getting a boost.
It says that the Summers campaign HOPES it will get a boost. In fact, the very first sentence of the article says that Summers "faces difficult odds" in his campaign.
Kind of an important distinction, no?

You probably need to retract that headline. It is clearly misleading. It's as though you didn't read the article.
Also, this is starting to bug me, but please, federal office holders don't go by the town in which they live, have lived, or currently reside. Your notations suggest they represent that town in the state house.
much better candidate ??
Charlie's a little slower than the rest of the RINO pack. It's taken him this long to learn the Rockefeller-Tupper strategy that Olympia and the rest of the Snoweclones employ- adopt the positions of the opposition, and make them your own. Assume most of your party will vote for you, act like a Dem and draw off their center-right votes, and shoot for 50% or more of the Undecideds.
Look at the current Collins campaign- perfect example.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, Charlie will lose yet again, and OJ will find him a nice, comfortable federal appointment for past services. Again.
