Maine Republican party chairman Mark Ellis issued the following statement in support of U.S. Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) choice of Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) for vice presidential running mate:
“John McCain’s choice of Governor Palin as his running mate is a truly exciting pick and brings another maverick with a proven record of challenging the status quo to the Republican ticket. John McCain is putting Washington on serious notice with his choice of Governor Palin. A McCain/Palin team is sure to shake things up and that is exactly what we need in Washington now.”

What do you expect our local
What do you expect our local republicans to say publically? That 72 year old, cancer surviving John McCain just blew his chance to be President? That Ms. Palin is an extreme right winger who seeks to deprive women of their right to choice? That she has no experience at all with national politics? Or that she makes Dan Quayle or Spiro Agnew look like statesmen by comparison? No Republican will declare that publically, but that is what alot of them are saying privately.
McCain showed very poor judgment in making this choice. In March, noting his age and medical history, McCain acknowledged that his pick of a running mate was of extreme importance. He pledged that he would pick the most qualified person possible to be a "heartbeat away from the presidency". Yesterday, he made a mockery of that pledge, and showed that he is not fit to be our President.
If Palin was a man who just
If Palin was a man who just 19 months ago was a Mayor of a town would McCain have picked her? Are there no other qualified women in the Republican Party?
