DENVER -- In a roll call vote on the Democratic National Convention floor, Maine cast 24 votes for Barack Obama and 8 votes for Hillary Clinton.
Maine Democratic Party Chairman John Knutson announced the total with Gov. John Baldacci, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud and Vice Chair Marianne Stevens by his side.
“We’re so proud to be here, the sun comes up in Maine, first in the nation, we feel very honored…” Knutson said on the floor.
Knutson mentioned U.S. Senate Candidate Tom Allen, who he said will soon take a seat once held by George Mitchell.
“As Maine goes, so goes the nation,” Knutson said.
“Thank you Maine for your wonderful delegation,” Convention chairwoman Nancy Pelosi responded.
