DENVER -- The opening speaker at the Maine delegation’s breakfast this morning was interrupted when Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, made an unannounced visit.

He discussed the need for grassroots involvement in Maine, and also said Tom Allen will prevail in the Maine Senate Race this fall.

Allen, Rep. Mike Michaud and Gov. John Baldacci also spoke, along with Kurt Adams of First Wind, a wind power production company in Maine, who gave the first speech that was interrupted by Dean.

Maine delegates are scattered today. Some are going to the various caucuses, others are going to a luncheon hosted by Emily’s List, and some are going to a Hillary Clinton rally downtown. Convention events start around 3.

The Kentucky delegation is in the same hotel as Maine’s, and the breakfast was held in the next room. Maine took a couple of jabs at Kentucky today, calling them lazy because Maine’s breakfast started earlier.

Check back in a bit for more on the speeches.
