DENVER -- Former Gov. Joe Brennan is a guest of the Maine Delegation at the Democratic National Convention this week with his wife, Connie. He said this is his eighth convention, many of which that he has spoken and/or been a delegate too.
“This is one of the most critical, because our standing in the world is so low,” Brennan said.
Brennan said it will be a great statement for democracy to elect a black president. He likened Obama to Jimmy Carter.
Brennan noted the following quote from Carter, and said it is true of Obama as well: "I want a government that is as good, and honest, and decent, and truthful, and fair, and competent, and idealistic, and compassionate, and as filled with love as are the American people."
Brennan said Joe Biden was a good pick for a running mate for Obama because of his experience. He said the Obama/Biden ticket will bring about needed changes to social justice, something the current administration has ignored.
PolitickerME also asked him about the race for U.S. Senate between incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R-Bangor) and U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland). Brennan said Allen has a good chance of winning because of the decisions he made over the last 12 years – specifically his vote against the Iraq War.
Brennan currently serves on the Federal Maritime Commission.
