Progressive group backs Allen, Pingree

U.S. Rep. Tom AllenU.S. Rep. Tom AllenDemocracy for America, a progressive political action group, has endorsed U.S. Rep. Tom Allen for Senate, and Chellie Pingree for Congress, both Democrats.

DFA will provide donations from progressives and volunteers for grassroots outreach for both campaigns.

Allen is running against incumbent Susan Collins. This leaves his seat open, and there Pingree is challenging Republican Charlie Summers.

In a release, the group’s communications director Daniel I. Medress said of Allen: “Susan Collins likes to talk a big game, but the truth of the matter is she can’t walk the walk and remains in lockstep with the misguided agenda of George Bush, John McCain, and the Republican Party. Tom Allen is a straight-shooter who doesn’t change his tune based on the latest polling. This is a lesson Susan Collins is incapable of learning.”

Allen has also been endorsed recently by the Maine Council of Senior Citizens and the American Postal Workers Union.

In another release, Arshad Hasan, executive director of DFA, said of Pingree: Chellie Pingree knows we have to break our dependence on foreign oil, support development of alternative sources of energy, and fix our broken health care system to guarantee we leave our children and grandchildren a better world. Chellie Pingree’s commitment to progressive values shows she is ready to go to Washington and tackle and solve the tough problems.”

Far left endorsement

"Progressive" is a code word for a modern socialist in the European mold. Progressives support higher taxes, more regulations and a bigger government with more control over our lives. These are far-Left extremists who think Hugo Chavez is a model among world leaders.

Pingree and Allen fit that mold and it should be instructive to us that they received their endorsement. It is interesting that Michaud did not make the cut. Maybe he isn't far-left enough for them?

Another......

out-of-state endorsement by far lefties for far lefties. If the election were held today in Georgetown and New Jersey, he might win. I love the comment that MHM wasn't liberal enough.

Since when does Michaud need

Since when does Michaud need any endorsements? Does ANYONE even know the name of his opponent?

Your rant fails to mention that the biggest growth in government in modern history has all happened under Republican presidents.

Oops

I guess the rest of you truthiness is just as solid.

Baloney, Ken Lindell

You say this:

These are far-Left extremists who think Hugo Chavez is a model among world leaders.
Pingree and Allen fit that mold...

Oh yeah? Prove it.

I dare you to find one link to either of those two saying Chavez is a model world leader. I'll give you partial credit if you can find any Democratic candidate who believes Chavez is a model world leader.

You know as well as I do that your statement is bull.

Typical leftist distortion

There is no doubt that the so called "progressives" who are behind the endorsements of Pingree and Allen are also admirers of Chavez.

Joe Kennedy has praised Chavez's good works for the poor (ignoring that he has plagued his own people with high inflation and food shortages).

Cindy Sheehan has praised Chavez and said she would rather live in Venezuela than the United States. (NB: She hasn't moved yet.)

Noam Chomsky and Hugo Chavez formed a mutual admiration society after his anti-American tirade at the UN in 2006.

Those are just a few examples of so called "progressive" attitudes that I can muster from the top of my head. personally I am no big fan of George W. Bush - particularly his foreign policy - but to embrace socialism as a viable alternative is foolhardy.
