Women stump for Scontras, a famous boxer stumps for Summers

Boxing legend Smokin’ Joe Frazier will be in Maine May 28 to campaign for Charlie Summers, a Republican candidate in the First Congressional District.

Frazier will attend a fundraiser in South Portland from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. The campaign is charging a $200 contribution for attendees, who will get a signed boxing glove and a photo with Frazier.

Contact the campaign for more information.

Summers’ opponent in the primary, Dean Scontras, announced a newly-formed Women’s Coalition for his campaign, headed by state Rep. Kathy Chase, R-Wells. The coalition consists of 100 women from around the district, the names can be found on his press release.

"I am honored to chair the Scontras for Congress Women's Coalition," Chase said in a release. "Dean is a candidate with strong principles and the ability to articulate his stand on the important issues facing our nation.  Be it the economy, border security and illegal immigration, high taxes or over regulation of business, Dean Scontras takes a position and supports it with facts. His strength and energy is the kind of representation Maine deserves in Washington."
