Gov. Mitt Romney encouraged united Republican Party support for John McCain’s presidential bid going into November.
He used his keynote speech Friday night at the state Republican Convention to draw contrasts between the two Democrats vying for the presidential nomination and McCain.
Romney won the Maine Republican caucuses before dropping out of the race and endorsing McCain.
Right now, Republicans have the advantage as Hillary Clinton tells voters why they shouldn’t vote for Barack Obama and vice versa.
“I agree with both of them,” he said. The crowd cheered.
At a press conference before the keynote, Romney said he didn’t think that McCain would pick him as vice president, given the other options out there.
Romney is working on forming a Political Action Committee to aid him in both campaigning for and donating to candidates he supports across the country. He could not provide any more details.
While money has been a big issue this election, Romney said the best way to deal with campaign finance is through disclosure – such as having donations be put up on the Internet once they’re made.

speaking of proven leader
Romney himself has lead a number of endeavors and enterprises and has learned the ropes of presiding over government. He is himself a proven leader. He has a record of success. Seeing him again, makes me feel proud to have supported him. I'd do it again if I got the chance!
"We certainly respected each
"We certainly respected each other"
What a liar... they were going after each other like crazy.
Proven Leader
Lori is right, Mitt is a proven leader and he is demonstrating it right now. It is not easy to fall short. A true leader picks himself up, and steps out of the rink with grace and good sportsmanship. He has shown tremendous character in how he has handled stepping out of the race and how he has encouraged Republicans to come together behind John McCain. There are not many politicians who would put their ego and ambitions aside for the good of the party. I would vote for him again.
Mitt Romney
Thank you Mitt Romney and all of you who have the intelligence to see his worth both as a citizen and as a great leader.
