Oxford County beware: The Democrats want to take over.
The county party is making a push to elect Democrats to local offices in November, said state Sen. Bruce Bryant, D-Dixfield, and an active party member.
Bryant said the county is ready for a change (seems to be a popular word this year.)
At the top of the list is current state Rep. John Patrick, D-Rumford. Patrick is termed out, and said he isn’t seeking a Senate seat because Bryant still has one term left, and a primary wouldn’t be in the best interest of the community.
Instead, he plans to run for county commissioner. He said serving in the county office is something that’s always been on his to-do list.
Other candidates include Paul Dumas, Jr., running for Judge of Probate, and Bruce Rood, running for Register of Probate. Both those seats, and all three commissioner seats, are held by Republicans.
Patrick will be challenging Commissioner David Duguay.
Duguay, who is pushing to get rid of partisanship in county government, will run as an independent this year, the Sun Journal reported today.

Duguay is a Republican thru
Duguay is a Republican thru and thru. His devotion to nonpartisanship is hard to swallow given his contributions to Republican candidates, his acceptance of campaign funding from Republicans, and his longtime involvement with the Republican party.
The Democrats running have a commitment to bring new energy and ideas to a listless county commission and probate office.
Good news for fiscal sanity
The R's have run Oxford County government too long. Duguay's claim to be an independent is bizarre. I wonder if the R's will run someone to oppose him or if all the other incumbents facing stiff challenges for the first time will follow suit and drop their party affiliation.
At least the voters will have some good choices to make in November.
