It was quite a week for Democrats in Denver and it would appear that our State Treasurer has recovered 20 million dollars that was all but written off earlier in the year.  And a local developer is discussing the purchase of the Biddeford’s downtown trash plant (MERC). While some Democrats had been turning to sites like eBay and Craigslist hoping to scoop up scalped tickets to see U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) speech tonight at INVESCO Field in front of an estimated crowd of over 75,000 people, Republicans are still giving away tickets for U.S. Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) Ohio rally tomorrow, where he had been expected to announce his vice presidential running mate.

The McCain campaign is working to build a crowd of 10,000 for the event in Dayton.

There is no shortage of second and third generations of American political families addressing delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this week: Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy; James Roosevelt, Jr., the grandson of President Franklin D. Roosevelt; U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL), the son of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988; U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA), the daughter of former New Orleans Mayor/U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Moon Landrieu; U.S. Sen. Robert Casey (D-PA), the son of former Pennsylvania Gov. Bob Casey; Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, the daughter of former Ohio Gov. John Gilligan; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the daughter of former Baltimore Mayor/U.S. Rep. Thomas D’Alesandro; Iowa Gov. Chet Culver, the son of former U.S. Sen. John Culver (D-IA); New York Gov. David Paterson, the son of former New York Secretary of State Basil Paterson; and Cecile Richards, the daughter of former Texas Governor Anne Richards.

Seacoast online is reporting that police have charged Republican State Senate candidate Kristi Bryant, of Kennebunkport, with operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. According to the article, all this took place shortly after midnight on August 22.

Bryant, a current Kennebunkport selectman, was recruited to run against incumbent State Senator Nancy Sullivan (D-Biddeford).  Although the chances of a Republican pickup in this district were slim to begin with, I'll bet the Democrats are raising their glasses to this new development.

It’s no surprise the Allen/Collins race is getting bloody and starting early. 

Diet tips from Senator Collins are just a few of the tidbits available to Maine voters as Senator Collins begins her bus tour in Aroostook County (I think that's like, in Canada).  Now, thanks to the "interweb" voters can join Senator Collins via her campaign video blog.  The first post is now live and in between the discussion on the Russian invasion of Georgia and the off shore drilling proposal, we learn that Senator Collins likes biscuits and onion rings.

Good times....and I was just kidding about that politics stuff, she really didn't talk about that.

Sure it was a long shot from the beginning, but Mainer's have been known to give the finger to conventional wisdom from time to time.

Following up on my earlier post regarding Senators Snowe and Collins' presidential and party loyalty, this post summarizes some results about our two Congressmen, Tom Allen and Mike Michaud, as measured by CQ Politics.

According to CQ, Rep. Allen scored an 18 for presidential support while Rep. Michaud scored a 19 during George W. Bush's time in office so far.  Allen and Michaud scored a 96 and 93 for party unity, respectively.

I always liked that game Battleship, a guessing game where two players try to sink each others ships.  Well, it seems Maine has a real life version at BIW.

There is the DDG51 and the DDG 1000, with Tom Allen on one side and Susan Collins on the other.  It looked as though the DDG51 was leading in the most recent round, when the Navy announced that they had decided to abandon the DDG1000 in favor of the DDG51.
