A Rumford attorney is suing a host of towns and companies in effort to allow petitioners to collect signatures on their property.
Seth Carey, who is spearheading an effort to bring a resort casino to Oxford County, said it violates the U.S. Constitution to not allow petitioners in malls and grocery stores. Defendents named are: Wal-Mart, Irving Oil, Hannaford Bros., three malls and the cities of Bangor, Augusta, Lewiston and Portland, the Bangor Daily News reported today.
This comes after petitioners were asked to leave these companies’ property. The cities named barred petitioners from collecting signatures outside public buildings.
The suit has been filed in Oxford County Superior Court. Defendants have 20 days to answer the lawsuit.
