Lots of reader traffic on my prognostications for the 2010 democratic primary. First of all, Congressman Michael Michaud either: (a) loves Congress, has a great committee assignment and will never leave; (b) he is going to run for Olympia's Senate seat in 2012; or (c) He is the only guy that can hold the middle for the Dems in 2010.
We are going to leave the Congressman on the list for now.
New Additions:
An adoring fan in central Maine insists that Speaker Glen Cummings needs to be in the race for Governor in 2010. The reason: "We need some eye candy." Frankly, at this point, that's as good a reason as any other.
A reader has also suggested that Bobby Monks may be considering a spot on 2010 Democratic primary for Governor. Mr. Monks is a businessman, democratic fundraiser and political insider from greater Portland. His father is Robert Monks, who made an unsuccessful primary bid for the United State Senate against Senator Susan Collins in 1996.
Mike Michaud for governor
I'm one of the vocal minority who thinks that Michaud will be a candidate for governor in 2010. I get the impression that he's tired of being a small fish in a big pond.
Many people don't realize it, but Michaud had a good working relationship with the opposition when he served as State Senate co-president.
However, Michaud's Congressional voting record is definitely tilted leftward, although not nearly as much as Tom Allen's.
2010: G. Steven Rowe for Governor - John Brautigam for AG
My choices for 2010: Experience, Integrity, Values...
- G. Steven Rowe for Governor
- Rep. John Brautigam for Attorney General
- Congressman Michaud-Keep U.S. House seat, rise in seniority, and go for Appropriations Committee placement
